Why Buy a Small Pony?
Most parents buy a kid size bicycle for their little one, but too often a large size pony for the same small child.
Why?
What can a small pony do? Our small ponies maybe small, but they are willing, fun, and not intimidating. Children learn confidence, respect, how to overcome their fear, and gain a wonderful sense of accomplishment: They can truly say: "I did it by myself!"
What can we do with our pony when our child outgrows it?
Mare or Gelding?
Where do our ponies come from?
How to Choose a Child's Pony?
If you are looking for a pony for your very young child (2 to 4 years old) to grow with, to learn to take care of, and to start riding, we think you should consider a toddler's pony. These ponies are smaller, cuddly, like small children, and are generally very tolerant and patient. Many times, they can also be driven, in case your child is really young and unable to sit in the saddle yet. Now if your child is a little older (5 and up) and just a beginner, very timid around horses, or has had bad experiences with horses, a child's first pony would be perfect. These ponies are extremely quiet and gentle, can be a little bigger (we match them with the child), behave nicely on trails, and take life a little slower than our Sport Ponies. They still are full of personality and fun, just in a quieter way. And for those little riders who are ready to jump, run barrels, or hit the show circuit, a sport pony might be the right choice. Versatility, athleticism, trainability and gentleness are some of the characteristics of a good child's first sport pony. On our ranch, we are fortunate to have several ponies who can do it all, because of their outstanding personalities--they can take a child from leadline to show jumping.
How to Reserve one of our Ponies?Because we have an ongoing "learn to ride" and horsemanship program for children at the ranch, we continually raise or buy, and then train ponies for our classes. However, we try to select and train 3-6 ponies per year for those discriminating families who agree with our training philosophy, and want to buy a trained pony for their child. Please review the pictures on the various web pages to see examples of our club ponies "on the job" or in training, and see if these types of ponies could be for you. Please note hat these ponies are not for sale, unless listed on this page. Also, please review the following ponies "For Sale" currently in training in our facilities. These ponies may not be immediately available, because they are scheduled to attend shows, or might require additional training to make them "ready for your child", however they may be reserved now, and final training, if needed, can be tailored to your child's needs. We believe in finding the right pony for each child, so please do not hesitate to contact us, and tell us what kind of pony you are looking for.
Children's Ponies for Sale (and prospects)All of our ponies for sale are current on shots, de-worming, farrier work, and have a valid current Coggins. They are sold with a health certificate. We would be happy to assist you in making arrangements for transportation. Prices depend on registration status, abilities, potential, as well as training level of each pony. Most of our first ponies start at $1,500.

![]() Cherokee has been reserved for Breana, 7 yrs old. He will move to a beautiful Miniature Horse Farm in the Sierra Hills, in Northern California. Cherokee is a very quiet and gentle pony with a long pleasure stride. He is very reliable and has taught many of our club riders to ride. He is easy to ride and can be ridden by our 4 year old at a walk and trot and on the trail. He canters easily for older riders, but does not jump. He is non-spooky and goes through anything on the trail (up and down hills, over logs, through creeks..). He has been trained English style, but he would be a nice and quiet, western pleasure pony. He does well on the barrel and pole pattern, with direct reining, at a low speed. He is great for obstacle and trail classes. With his huge spotted blanket, 2 blue eyes and a blaze, he is truly a unique pony. He prefers ranch life to stable life and goes along just fine with anybody. He has excellent ground manners and can be taking care of by young children. He would be a great first pony for a 5 year old trail lover to grow up with. Cherokee will also be available Feb 1st, but may stay at the ranch until the winter is over, or transportation can be arranged.

![]() Firecracker has been sold to Savana, 5 yrs old, from Boerne, TX. Savana and Firecracker will be joining our 2006 Show Team, so watch out for them at the shows! Firecracker might be small, but he is sporty! He is one of the few true Toddlers' Sport Pony. A puppy dog personality, a small size, a willingness to please, a big heart, and a great potential make him the perfect starter pony for a very motivated child (or Mom)! Firecracker is trained to perform for a 3-6 (petite) year old child. Whether your child has no experience, or is ready to try to jump some little cross-rails, Firecracker is ready. He leadlines, lunges (all 3 gaits), and obeys voice commands. He rides independently with 4-6 year old children and takes our 4 year old over small jumps. He is a great lesson pony and with his color, a pretty show pony. A 4 year old can lead him (or ride him) through obstacle courses and even jumping and hunting in hand. He loves young children and will stay with them being petted, brushed, or braided forever. Because of his small size and slender built, he is well suited for a small, or petite, child not over 50 lbs. Firecracker will also be available As of Feb 1st, but can stay until transportation can be arranged.

![]() Winchester has been reserved for Danielle, 5 yrs old, in Ravenna, OH. We think they will make a wonderful team and have many years of fun and showing together! Winchester is a very nice, gentle, and quiet child's first sport pony. Don't let his quiet looks fool you. He is one of those who can do it all. He is fully trained and performs well in all in-hand events as well as under saddle. He can take a very young rider safely through a leadline, or a walk class, or a more advanced rider through jumping and obstacles courses, or on a trail. He is an ideal pony for a 4-7 year old child to learn and compete on. His ground manners are flawless and he likes children. He now carries up to 65 lbs over 2' jumps, but also takes our 4 year old safely over cross rails for her to gain confidence. Gunsmoke, our English pleasure star, is Winchester's full brother, only one year older. Winchester is really a nice pony, only waiting for the right child to take him home! He will be available Feb 1st, 2006, but can stay until transportation can be arranged.

![]() GI Joe and Alexandra, 7 years old, of Conroe, TX have found each other. Both are always ready to go and competitve, so we think it can only work out! Good luck to both of you! GI Joe is a true Sport Pony for children. He is forward and responsible under saddle, but easily manageable by young children. He is a "big" A size pony and would be great for a competitive child 7 years and older. He would also be appropriate for a younger rider with experience, under a trainer's supervision. He has very good ground manners, and can be groomed and bathed by children. He is very friendly and loves children and attention. GI Joe is trained English, hunter/jumper, bareback and trails. He lunges and responds very well to voice commands, when in liberty. He is also trained for in hand events like halter, jumping and obstacles in hand, and does well in them. He is an excellent and pretty jumper, although still green as we only had him in training for 3 months. He had been trained to drive a cart as a 3 year old, but had not done it since. He ground drives perfectly. We are looking for a competitive English riding child to team him up with. An excellent home is a must!
