Philosophy

We offer complete training for ponies (up to 13.2 hds) ages 2 and over. We also offer "remedial" classes for those ponies who are not performing at their best.
All of our ponies are trained for children, and with the help of children, the only true way to train children's ponies.
We only use natural, non threatening methods of training.

We separate our ponies in 2 groups : Toddlers and small children's ponies (usually 42" or under) and Children's First Sport Ponies (40" and over).

All of our ponies receive the same basic training, and should:
- Have good ground manners
. Standing quietly while being groomed
. Picking up feet easily for cleaning or trimming
. Leading both ways with a child, stop, go
. No biting, nor kicking
- Respond to voice commands (a must for a child's pony)
. Whoa, walk, trot (while in liberty, lunging or mounted)
- Lunge and work in liberty
. Lunge both sides with a halter or a bridle
. Work in liberty (a great way to gain their trust)
- Be useable as a leadline pony
. Stay quiet, but responsive when led with a child on
- Walk/trot with an independent rider
. Being responsive but not "hot"
. Can be ridden bareback or with a saddle
. Being used to balls, flags and other games
. Trail rides
- Optional In hand Training: obstacles, hunter/jumper, showmanship

Our Toddlers and small children's ponies are usually quiet, but not unresponsive. They have great personalities and are fun to be around, as they have been trained to trust their handlers, not fear them.

Our Sports ponies undergo further training:
- Walk/Trot/Canter
- Basic jumping
- Intensive outdoor experience
- Mounted games

The ponies are selected for this group because of their natural jumping ability, their forward nature, their agility and speed and their outstanding personality and love for children. No matter how good a pony is, if he/she does not like children, it will not work out. This is the reason all of our ponies are handled daily, not only by their adult trainer, but also by children, ranging in ages from 2 to 12 years old.

Fees

We can only accept a very limited number of ponies for training this year. We reserve the right to refuse training any pony who, after a 1 or 2 week trial period, we believe, would not be a suitable mount for a child, after a reasonable time in training.

To be accepted in our program a pony must:
- be a mare or a gelding (no stallion)
- be 2 years of age or older
- measure 54" or under
- have a current negative coggins and all vaccination shots
- be used to a halter and a lead

Training duration will vary, with a minimum of 60 days (except "refresher course" which can sometimes be 30 days only).

$150/month for PVR Ponies (initially trained by us) who need additional training, or a refresher course.
